Agricultural Tour

Agricultural Tour

€80 per person

The Agricultural Tour is s an exceptional excursion unlike any other on the island. Farms in the vicinity of Funchal provide a fascinating glimpse into the methods used to cultivate Madeira’s abundant fruit and vegetable harvests. The banana plantation and consortium are especially eye-opening, with many stops at views to take in the breathtaking surroundings. Along the journey, you will visit a local free car wash, which is a waterfall in the midst of a road, before arriving at a dairy farm to view the cows being milked using traditional milking techniques. This farm is renowned for its fresh cheese, or “requeijão .” The lunch break is at a traditional restaurant in the center of a sugar cane region, and there is also a tour of the only steam-powered rum plant in Europe.

Now comes the exciting part. Do not overindulge at breakfast. This trip includes a unique local meal, delicious sweet bananas from one of the banana farms we visit, a traditional homemade liqueur, Madeiran honey, typical local fruit from the fruit farms, and, of course, the renowned requeijão cheese.

Ponta do Sol
Our first stop is at the most picturesque village of them all, Ponta do Sol. This delightfully unspoilt village was blessed with glorious ocean views and more hours of sunshine than anywhere else on island which gives the village it’s name.
3
Madalena do Mar
Madalena do Mar once produced sugarcane. Due to its lush ground and favorable temperature, it has one of the island's largest banana plantations. On the promenade, parallel to the pebble beach, you'll find restaurants and cafés, and Santa Madalena church is nearby.

Jardim do Mar
The next fishing village is Jardim do Mar which sits on a plateau bending down to the ocean against a backdrop of mountainous cliffs. The parish of Jardim do Mar, also challenge surfers to ride their spectacular waves, considered among the best in Europe.

Paul do Mar
Carrying on along the southwest coast our next stop is at the fishing village of  Paul doMar, which until the late 1960’s, the only access to this village was by sea. This unspoiled beauty of the west also offers excellent surfing conditions, with waves able to stir even the stout-hearted.

Arco da Calheta
We then continue our lovely coastal drive, to visit one of Madeiras oldest parishes Arco da Calheta. This attractive location, surrounded by rocks that caress the ocean, Calheta – which actually means ‘small beach’ in Portuguese, now bosts as having the only white sand beach on the island. We will also visit the sugar cane factory where they make sugar can honey and rum.
