Picos dos Barcelos
The Nuns Valley Tour starts of from the reception area as we  make our way up to Picos dos Barcelos where we make a short stop to enjoy one of the best views over Funchal. This view point is found at an altitude of 335m, between Stº Antonio and Stº Martinho.

Eira do Serrado
Before arriving in the famed Nuns Valley, we stop at the Eira do Serrado viewpoint, where the views over the entire valley, as well as the road leading there, are truly breathtaking. We spend around 30 minutes here taking in the amazing sights that are bestowed upon us. We then make our way down into the lovely village, where we can enjoy the view from the bottom up.

Nuns Valley
We then travel for another 10 minutes to Nuns Valley, also known as Curral das Freiras, a small village lying at the base of a deep basin and surrounded by the jagged peaks of the surrounding mountains. Due to the fact that Madeira is a volcanic island, this is considered to be the volcano's mouth, hence the breathtaking surroundings. Nuns' Valley was formerly accessible only on foot (or by donkey) but may now be reached by road, though it remains quite isolated.  The settlement dates back to the 16th century when nuns from the Santa Clara convent in Funchal fled pirate attacks and sought refuge here in 1566.

My fiance and I had never been to Europe, but wanted to plan a unique elopement trip to this place. We had no idea where to start, and turned to some internet research to find the services of this agency and eventually connect with the team at this travel agency. From the first email exchange, we knew that our travel consultant and her team would be our travel company.

I cannot speak highly enough about our 3 week trip to this place and the services provided by this travel company. Everything was seamless. The private guides were interesting and knowledgable. We felt that they were more than just guides. It was like we had a friend in each city.
